Behind the Patterns

Just living is inspiration. The daily bits, the mundane, the exciting, the heartbreakingly sad - all of it becomes part of what I create.

It doesn’t always feel deep or profound. Sometimes it’s as simple as watching my daughters discover the world, or noticing how the light falls on the kitchen counter. Of course, traveling, being outside, and soaking in new places inspire me too. But if I tried to list every single source of inspiration, it would be endless (and honestly, probably not that interesting to read). It’s easier to wrap it all up as the everyday picture of life.

Golden Fog

My first surface pattern collection, Golden Fog, came straight from my years in the Bay Area, eight years living there, and many trips back since moving. The culture, the fog rolling in, the water, the bridges, the way the city feels alive with both grit and magic, all of it makes me want to create.

I still miss it more often than I like to admit. Designing that collection was a way of keeping those landscapes and memories alive in my work.

The Little Moments

What really fuels me, though, are the tiny things. Raindrops on the window. My kids tilting their heads back to watch the clouds. Laughing with family on the sidewalk. Even the dishes sitting on the counter for three days straight.

It’s all part of the process - the messy, ordinary parts of life that somehow find their way into pattern and color. These are the moments that connect us.

We fall in love with art because it connects us back to something human. A dress, a pillow, a piece of floral bedding, on the surface, they’re simple designs. But if they spark a memory, an emotion, or a sense of “I know this feeling,” then they become so much more.

That’s the magic I chase: taking the little things I love and sharing them in a way that might resonate with someone else. Sometimes a design connects deeply, sometimes it doesn’t, but even the act of creating makes me fall in love with it more.

For Tomorrow

As you step into tomorrow, try to notice the small things: the leaves blowing across the street, birds fighting the wind, coworkers laughing, even the pile of laundry waiting to be folded.

These everyday moments are part of the human experience. They connect us, inspire us, and remind us that even in the simplest details, there’s beautyand maybe even a pattern waiting to be discovered.
